FIRST PLACE!! A small girl Waits at the door Watches the people Coming to stay Doll in her hand She calls to her father- "Dad! There are more people here!" "Tell them to go" came the reply from the father" There is no room here to sleep! "But the mummy is pregnant!" came the shocked reply "She cannot stay outside, and there are no rooms to be had!" The father was worried; he did not know what to do So he came to the door apologizing as he walked" "There is only the stable, I am sorry," he said "We will take it" came the voice of a fourteen-year-old girl" I must rest, we have been traveling all day" The little girl wondered at this girls courage Thinking that she would not be as strong And followed the pair to the stable She found that the girls name was Mary And that Joseph was her husbands name And that Mary was told about the baby From an angel who visited one day "He is to be called Jesus," said Mary" That is what the angel said" And then she told Anna (for that was the girls name) That she should go and get her mother, The baby was on its way Anna ran to get her mummy And her mother came running down the stairs She said that there was no time for a midwife, And sent Anna off to bed. Anna awoke an hour later By a bright star shining overhead She got up and dressed an ran down To see Mary with the new baby boy He was wrapped in rags (As babies were) And laid in a manger for a bed Then came in a group of shepherds Who marveled at the tiny baby They were told about the baby by an angel, Told that he was a king Anna was shocked to find that the king Was lying in rags in a manger He should be dressed in purple Laid in a cradle of gold Mary laughed and said That Jesus was no earthly king That he was the king of heaven and earth But that earth did not recognize him yet Three more men came in the door, With bundles heaped in their arms They were kings, anyone could see that But here they were, Kneeling down on the floor In front of a baby And worshipping! One by one they gave their gifts Placing them down on the ground Gold, and frankinsence and myhrr Treasures fit for a king! One by one they left All these people of wonder Until all that was left Was Mary, Joseph and Anna And Jesus lying in a manger So that was the first christmas Through the eyes of a four year old child Who watched with wet eyes As they left the nextday But Mary was not sad "We will meet again" Was the sentence she spoke as goodbye And they will!
